Modern bathroom tiling2/13/2024 ![]() A herringbone layout is particularly popular at the moment, as is laying subway tiles vertically, rather than the more traditional horizontal layout.'įinally, Ruth Foster of Victoria Plum adds, 'Subway tiles are still fashionable, however in 2023 traditional tiling is becoming less of a focus in the bathroom. 'Subway tiles are still popular but more and more we're seeing them used in interesting and unusual formats. Laura Popek of Ripples suggests mixing up how you use them. A timeless staple that we couldn’t be without. But we see them as slightly less of a trend for this year and more of the supporting tile, that will sit effortless with any other tile pairing.' Grazzie Wilson of Ca'Pietra adds, 'We put subway tiles into the “classic” camp. However, if budget does allows, there are many other exciting tiles to explore, so be brave with your choices!' They are simple but will have a massive impact. Plus, they are perfect for those on a budget, especially given the cost-of-living squeeze. 'Subway tiles are eternally popular, especially in white. While there are other shapes and styles that are superseding in popularity at the moment, such as geometric or bamboo style tiles, overall, they are still a very popular choice,' says Lee Read of Easy Bathrooms.Ībbas Youseffi of Porcelain Superstore agrees. 'Subway or metro tile bathroom ideas are a timeless classic and as such, aren’t going out of fashion and remain popular. The colour compliments white ceramics and coordinates perfectly with neutral colours and textures to remind us of the great outdoors.' Are subway tiles still popular in 2023? 'With more of us opting for statement looks in our bathrooms, green glossy tiles are an easy choice to create the ultimate WOW factor!,' says Antonia Clayson, Design Expert, Victorian Plumbing. Mint green is an ideal shade as it has a fresh, vibrant feel that will open up your space.'įor a more dramatic take on the green bathroom tile trends, look at statement glossy options. 'To tap into the biophillic oasis trend, pair green tiles with crisp white and natural wood details to create a room that’s as relaxing as it is elegant. ‘Green works wonderfully in the bathroom, offering a calm and restorative atmosphere to relax in,' notes Kamila Swiatecka, marketing and brand manager, Tile Giant. Green bathroom tiles are one of the bathroom tile trends that are continuing from 2022 into 2023. Or opt for white features for a summery, pastel style scheme.' 7. 'Team pink tiles with darker accessories for an industrial feel. This is perfect if you are wanting to include greenery or bold accessories.'Ĭonsider colour pairings with pink when deciding on your bathroom renovation ideas. Pink bathroom tile trends also coordinate well with many other colours. 'Pastel pink adds a touch of warmth and character, as well as establishing a space that visitors will notice and appreciate. ![]() ![]() 'Although pink tiles are normally associated with girly or feminine aesthetics, they are great at modernising your home and creating stylish and unforgettable spaces,' explains Antonia Clayson, Design Expert at Victorian Plumbing. 'We are seeing a real surge in demand for pink tiles, in particular lighter blush pinks', he says. And in a format as striking as these Fluted pink decor wall tiles, £48m2, Porcelain Superstore, it's no wonder Abbas Youseffi, Director at Porcelain Superstore predicts them to be one of their biggest sellers this year. Think pinkĪnother more muted shade that is looking popular for 2023, is pale pink. Rich browns and warm neutrals and textures, think terracottas, cement and smooth glaze tiles in a cohesive palette.' 6. 'Another top trend for 2023 we're seeing are heritage tiles- beautifully designed patterns inspired by antique tiles in an earthier palette. This will be done with warm, honey veining to the marble tiles.’ 'The warm tones associated with beige will also make their way into trends such as spa bathrooms, giving them a much warmer edge to them. Styled the right way, they can help to create a sense of calm and they harmonise with most colours on the colour wheel, allowing you to bring in other colours as and when you choose.’ However, they are anything other than boring. Looking to create a calm and serene setting to unwind in? Then perhaps steer clear of too much colour and opt for a more neutral colour palette instead, focusing on one particular colour you might not have expected.īarrie Cutchie, Design Director at BC Designs says, 'In 2023, we’re seeing beige bathroom ideas becoming popular in bathroom tiles too.

For windows download Downie 42/13/2024 Shottr is an up and coming alternative, but still too bare bones for my daily use. At every step I was fighting their horrible workflow. However, the entire UI/UX and workflow I thought was absolutely horrible. I tried to give Cleanshot X a good try, since that’s a popular Mac-native screen capture utility. The Snag-it UI is not very “Mac” native, and I feel the size of the app is a bit bloated, but in terms of features I love it. I’ve tried a few other Mac-first screen capture utilities, and they all fell short in key areas for my usage patterns. It has about every feature you can imagine, such as panoramic scrolling capture, screen recorder, animated GIFs, text replace, stamps, templates, and rich sharing options. ($47.24 one-time) Snag-It is a fully featured screen capture and snippet editing utility for the Mac (and Windows). It has extensions for Dropover, Amphetamine, Apple Mail, Apple Notes, 1Password, Warp, and hundreds more programs. For AI, it has a number of built in functions that use ChatGPT such as “Change tone to casual”, “Find bugs in code”, “Make longer”, “Improve writing”, and a lot more. The developers release a new version every few weeks, so the rate of innovation and new features is astonishing. If you want to use ChatGPT 4.0, you can uplift your license for an extra $8/mo for unlimited use. I would suggest the “Pro” version, which includes unlimited use of ChatGPT 3.5 turbo. It also has hundreds of free extensions, with more every month. I literally use Raycast dozens of times a day. It’s vastly better to Alfred, for me, in every way. However, this year I switched to Raycast and could not be more happy. ![]() For years I recommended Alfred as the Spotlight replacement. ( Free/Pro $8/mo ChatGPT 4 +$8/mo) Raycast is the new and modern replacement for Alfred. And the response wasn’t a copy/paste from their KB. I recently opened a support ticket, and had a reply with a full resolution in literally less than 5 minutes. Should you ever have a support issue, Flexibits has literally the fastest and best support ever. It also has built in weather, natural language input, and more. One of the features I like best and literally use daily is joining an online meeting, such as Zoom, with one click from the menu bar. It always has Day 1 support of new headline Apple OS features like Focus Modes and lockscreen widgets. It can give you a single pane of glass view for a large range of calendars including iCloud, Google, Microsoft 365,, , Zoom, Yahoo, Webex, MS Exchange, Todoist, etc. Fantastical is one of those apps that prevents me from ever going back to Windows.įantastical has won Mac app of the year award (2020), and is both visually beautiful as well as functional. ![]() ($4.75/mo) Fantastical is one of those must-have calendaring apps that is supported across the Apple ecosystem (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS). Note: Download 1Password for Mac directly from their website. 1Password’s 128-bit secret key adds the critical extra layer of protection that Infosec professionals trust. I would not say that of any other cloud based password manager, as most all other apps rely solely on a master password to decrypt your vault. When done right ( like what 1Password does), storing a password vault in the cloud does not really increase the risk of your vault being decrypted by a threat actor. There’s a big misconception that storing passwords in the cloud is less secure than storing them locally. 1Password also has support for Passkeys, which is the future of secure logins. 1Password also has routine 3rd party security audits, which they publicly publish the results. If you are using any password manager other than 1Password I would urge you to strongly consider migrating. Infosec professionals that I’ve seen lately only recommend two options for password management: 1Password and Bitwarden.ġPassword has much stronger protection of your password vault than Bitwarden ( 128-bit secret key plus your master password vs. Security researcher after researcher pick 1Password as the best option, with an extremely high bar for security. Given the recent Lastpass security breaches, and their horrific security practices coming to light (not to mention their deceptive public statements and even outright lies), using a highly trusted password manager is a must. It has clients for macOS, iOS, Windows, Android, Linux, and many browser extensions including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave, and Edge. (From $2.99/mo) 1Password is an awesome cross-platform password and privacy manager.

Benchmark testing2/12/2024 Nevertheless, CPUs with many execution units often complete real-world and benchmark tasks in less time than the supposedly faster high-clock-rate CPU. Benchmarks are now regularly used by compiler companies to improve not only their own benchmark scores, but real application performance.ĬPUs that have many execution units - such as a superscalar CPU, a VLIW CPU, or a reconfigurable computing CPU - typically have slower clock rates than a sequential CPU with one or two execution units when built from transistors that are just as fast. ![]() However, such a transformation was rarely useful outside the benchmark until the mid-1990s, when RISC and VLIW architectures emphasized the importance of compiler technology as it related to performance. For instance, during the 1980s some compilers could detect a specific mathematical operation used in a well-known floating-point benchmark and replace the operation with a faster mathematically equivalent operation. Prior to 2000, computer and microprocessor architects used SPEC to do this, although SPEC's Unix-based benchmarks were quite lengthy and thus unwieldy to use intact.Ĭomputer manufacturers are known to configure their systems to give unrealistically high performance on benchmark tests that are not replicated in real usage. ![]() Running this much smaller snippet on a cycle-accurate simulator can give clues on how to improve performance. For example, if a benchmark extracts the key algorithms of an application, it will contain the performance-sensitive aspects of that application. While application benchmarks usually give a much better measure of real-world performance on a given system, synthetic benchmarks are useful for testing individual components, like a hard disk or networking device.īenchmarks are particularly important in CPU design, giving processor architects the ability to measure and make tradeoffs in microarchitectural decisions. Application benchmarks run real-world programs on the system. Synthetic benchmarks do this by specially created programs that impose the workload on the component. See BogoMips and the megahertz myth.īenchmarks are designed to mimic a particular type of workload on a component or system. For example, Pentium 4 processors generally operated at a higher clock frequency than Athlon XP or PowerPC processors, which did not necessarily translate to more computational power a processor with a slower clock frequency might perform as well as or even better than a processor operating at a higher frequency. Therefore, tests were developed that allowed comparison of different architectures. Purpose Īs computer architecture advanced, it became more difficult to compare the performance of various computer systems simply by looking at their specifications. Benchmarking as a part of continuous integration is called Continuous Benchmarking. ![]() Software benchmarks are, for example, run against compilers or database management systems (DBMS).īenchmarks provide a method of comparing the performance of various subsystems across different chip/system architectures. The term benchmark is also commonly utilized for the purposes of elaborately designed benchmarking programs themselves.īenchmarking is usually associated with assessing performance characteristics of computer hardware, for example, the floating point operation performance of a CPU, but there are circumstances when the technique is also applicable to software. In computing, a benchmark is the act of running a computer program, a set of programs, or other operations, in order to assess the relative performance of an object, normally by running a number of standard tests and trials against it. Liquid metal wheel2/12/2024 ![]() Running the horsecars on rails allowed for a much smoother ride. Street railways developed in America before Europe, largely due to the poor paving of the streets in American cities which made them unsuitable for horsebuses, which were then common on the well-paved streets of European cities. The Swansea and Mumbles Railway was something of a one-off however, and no street tramway appeared in Britain until 1860 when one was built in Birkenhead by the American George Francis Train. It was worked by steam from 1877, and then, from 1929, by very large (106-seater) electric tramcars, until closure in 1960. The service closed in 1827, but was restarted in 1860, again using horses. The British Parliament passed the Mumbles Railway Act in 1804, and horse-drawn service started in 1807. The world's first passenger train or tram was the Swansea and Mumbles Railway, in Wales, UK. Established in 1804, the railway service was the world's first. Main article: Horsecar A horse-drawn tram operated by Swansea and Mumbles Railway, 1870. However, trams have seen resurgence in recent years. Improvements in other vehicles such as buses led to decline of trams in the mid 20th century. Electric trams largely replaced animal power in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Another factor which contributed to the rise of trams was the high total cost of ownership of horses. One of the advantages over earlier forms of transit was the low rolling resistance of metal wheels on steel rails, allowing the trams to haul a greater load for a given effort. The Melbourne tram network is the largest in the world, with 250 km (160 mi) of track. The differences between these modes of rail transport are often indistinct and a given system may combine multiple features. ![]() Some trams, known as tram-trains, may have segments that run on mainline railway tracks, similar to interurban systems. Trams are now commonly included in the wider term " light rail", which also includes grade-separated systems. If necessary, they may have dual power systems-electricity in city streets and diesel in more rural environments. In some cases, a contact shoe on a third rail is used. Today, most trams use electrical power, usually fed by a pantograph sliding on an overhead line older systems may use a trolley pole or a bow collector. Tram vehicles are usually lighter and shorter than main line and rapid transit trains. Many recently built tramways use the contemporary term light rail. ![]() The tramlines or networks operated as public transport are called tramways or simply trams/streetcars. Add adhd symptoms2/12/2024 People who say they have ADD most likely have symptoms of inattentive type ADHD like forgetfulness and poor focus, organization, and listening skills. A Closer Look at the 3 Types of ADHD Symptoms of Primarily Inattentive ADHD (Formerly ADD) Find more information in our comprehensive ADHD diagnosis guide. Once a doctor has a full understanding of the presenting symptoms, they will be able to make determine which type of ADHD (if any) is the appropriate diagnosis. They will also do a physical exam and review your medical history to rule out any other medical or psychiatric conditions that could be causing symptoms. To make a diagnosis, your doctor will assess for any ADHD symptoms exhibited in the past six months. In fact, since children with ADD are most often not disruptive in school, they may be mistakenly viewed as simply “shy” or a “in a world of their own.” There is no single test for Predominantly Inattentive Type ADHD (formerly ADD). Those with this type of ADHD tend to act out and demonstrate behavior problems. In comparison, those with Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD align more closely with the stereotypical understanding of attention deficit - a fidgeting, impulsive individual (usually a child), who is bursting with energy and struggles to wait their turn. They can also be prone to forgetfulness and losing things, and struggle to follow instructions. ![]() They might be considered daydreamers or appear to be disinterested and disorganized in the classroom or the workplace.
